In the following videos we can see two different handwraping styles. Fredy Roach and Nacho Beristain  differences in handwraping… Both coaches show the difference way they wrap their boxers…

In the first one Fredy Roach shows his tricks of the trade. He talks about different boxers and their preferences.

In this second video Nacho Beristain shows his style. It is different from Roach’s. He doesn’t seem to take as much care. But he does an important thing than Roach doesn’t and that is why I picked his video. Do you know what that is?

Roach doesn’t make the fighter close his hand into a fist as he goes through the fingers.

Not only the fingers, but the wrist also. Alexis do you know why is a good idea to make a fist while wrapping the wrist?

      • Alexis says:

        Hi Adam,
Since I do my own wraps, I noticed that closing my fist prevents the wrap from becoming too tight. That way, the circulation of blood in my fist doesn’t get affected. When I leave my fingers open, the moment I make a fist, all the cloth tightens up, restricting blood flow – not a comfortable position to be in especially when punching.

Alexis, that´s true. It is always a good idea to close your fist while wrapping the wrist and spread the fingers while wrapping the hand to allow blood flow.
